Job Summary:

The Accounts Payable Accountant oversees daily operation of accounts payable, prepares compliance-related and month-end reports and provides analytical support to Manager of Accounting in Tax, Audit and General Ledger related matters.

Key Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Manages weekly accounts payable (A/P) cycle
  • Hires, trains and supervises A/P clerk
  • Functions as a liaison between the Plan and BMC during Lawson Accounting System issues resolution
  • Maintains close relationship with BMC A/P department to validate vendor check runs and annual production of 1099 forms
  • Responsible for bi-weekly expense reimbursement cycle: ensures that document submission adheres to the Plan’s policies, prepares and submits reports to the Payroll Administrator for processing
  • Interfaces with vendors regarding switch to electronic payment system and resolution of complex issues
  • Communicates with other departments and senior management to resolve expense related issues and inquiries
  • Develops and maintains A/P department workflows as required
  • Analyzes monthly recurring expenses to ensure completeness of monthly administrative expense accrual, prepares and posts expense accrual entries to General Ledger
  • Analyzes purchases to ensure accurate accounting for capital vs. regular expenditures
  •  Responsible for updates of Expense Approval Authority Listing
  • Assists with month end closing: prepares documentation and posts journal entries for intercompany transactions, prepares journal entry control reports, prepares a lead sheet package for managerial review,
  • Prepares reports and provides documentation for internal and external auditors and for tax filing purposes
  • Assists with analytic ad-hoc inquiries and special projects

 

Supervision Exercised:

  • Direct Supervision of an A/P clerk

 

Supervision Received:

  • Indirect supervision received weekly by Manager of Accounting

 

Qualifications:

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or the equivalent combination of training and experience

 

 Experience:

  • 4+ years in a Accounts Payable or General Accounting role
  • Experience in automated AP/GL environment
  • Proficiency in MS Excel

 

Certification or Conditions of Employment: 

  • Pre-employment background check

  • Proficiency in an automated G/L and A/P environment

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
